Diving into the world of blogging.

Please bear with me as I attempt to manouvre my way through my very first blog.  As the name suggests, I hope to enlighten older people to the many small joys there are in life as well as, of course the big ones.

One of my main delights in life is that early morning coffee, taken in a leisurely  fashion, in bed.  It must be hot and I am more than happy with instant which is no longer trendy and almost frowned upon by the majority. I don't think I have to suggest to anyone how to start their day - habits will be long formed by now -  but if you don't have a pleasurable routine to commence the day, think about constructing one. I love to plan my day over my coffee and reflect on yesterdays delights.

I tried a new recipe this week which I endeavour to do every week.  Inspiration is often gained from Facebook posts and conversations with  friends and once I decide to make something, it MUST be done.  I am a foodie from way back and so enjoy the anticipation of a new dish, anticipation being sometimes greater than realization of course!  My hot cross bun baked custard turned out a treat, sprinkled with blueberries and drizzled with thick cream. Delish! Next week it will be something else that I MUST make.

This post was interrupted whilst I dashed out to golf and played 9 holes in a competetion my club holds every Friday and Sunday. The rain bucketed down most of the 9 holes, the wind drove the leaves in the trees into a frenzy and my game was terrible.  Never mind, I loved seeing the wee willie wagtails hopping around on the wet grass and the ducks waddling importantly to the pond, their babies lovingly clustered together.  Made that hot choclate taste ever so delicious afterwards...

A new walk I took this week brought a surprise.  A hidden hide......well I guess all hides are hidden ....overlooking a quiet lake with lots of ducks and waterfowl going about their business.  I spent 10 minutes watching, unobserved, their antics. Trying new things always brings something interesting, I have found. This world is sure full of wonderful things to see and do.  If you are prone to performing the same acts week in and week out, think about trying somewhere new.  You'll be amazed and feel a real sense of achievement.

Work this week was, as usual, fulfilling, interesting and fun.  I have been granted a 2 week working trip to Rwanda with a company I work for as a volunteer so that brought major excitement for me.  It isn't until next year and as yet, have no dates to work with. I have been doing this for 20 years and intend to retire from them next year so this one will be extra special. The hours are long and can be exhausting but so totally exhilerating.

So folks, there ends my first official blog.  I'll probably look back on these down the track and question my ability but I have to start somewhere and this has been a bucket list item for me for a long time.

Oh yes, am babysitting my daughters french bulldog for the weekend.  Another new for me as I have never had a french bulldog or looked after one before.  Shall I just say that she is very intense.

See you next week,

Toni
