Lots has happened since I last wrote and I will rack my brain now to remember! Played golf at a new course with 2 friends last week and it was well worth driving to. Only a nine hole course but obviously you can go around twice (which we didn't do....we went to the pub for lunch and a glass of the good stuff - the tacos were the result of that days eating). The course is called Boomerang Park and it is on the Gold Coast at Mudgeeraba. Major renos are being done to the clubhouse and the girl there assured me it would be awesome when finished. It is the prettiest course set in lush surroundings where birds, trees and flowers abound. Always seem to notice things when it is new to you and we came away excited by our find. I also nominated to be on the golf committee but that ended dismally with 5 people nominating and only 2 voted.......I was not one so am not up there in the popularity stakes. They will never know what they missed out on..he he.
Work is ramping up with the doctors running big lists to accommodate their patients and then make their Xmas breaks. Alot of older people are returning to work, albeit on a shorter time frame, to keep their brains active, earn abit more money and stay in touch with things. A great opportunity for those eager to achieve any of those things. Keep your eyes open for opportunities. I so love the structure of my 2 working days weekly and happily set my alarm, make my breakfast (to take to work) and set off up the motorway. That's not so much fun. It all feels so purposeful although I think only in MY mind.
I visited family in North Queensland last weekend which I do a couple of times a year. Have a grandson, a son, a sister and a few old friends there so it's always busy and we all talk the leg off an iron pot. I do come home quite mentally exhausted but replete. Friends cooked my daughter and I a delicious chinese meal - see for yourself.
Something nice about friends who you have a long history with and forgive you your foibles. I have found in latter years that some new friends are not so forgiving and I suppose one has to prove oneself. Important to keep up those old friendships so pick up a pen or text someone you haven't seen or heard from for ages. You will make their day.
To my favourite subject - food. I make lamb koftas last night which I had only made once before, many years ago. Lamb is the favourite of many and it didn't let me down. Moist, succulent, yummy. I used Nigellas recipe but forgot to take a photo. I am still trying to get into the habit of taking photos of anything! I also cooked chicken livers as you would lambs fry and had them with mash and veg. So tasty and full of iron. Try to eat a well balanced meal daily. I know it is easy to just do crackers and cheese which are delicious and filling but remember the food triangle. It is difficult however to eat 5 cups of veg a day or whatever it is they recommend. Ones appetite diminishes are one ages so eat the amount which suits you.
A friend and I took ourselves off to lunch at the Sunday session at a Surfclub nearby recently. Yes!! a Sunday sesh......we all remember the Sunday sessions and how originally the hotel would open for a couple of hours and then close and then reopen again in the afternoon. How funny that sounds now and what was that about? The lunch was pleasing and the band sang old songs which we knew - a nice way to spend a Sunday arvy and something different. Bonus was looking out to sea from the deck and seeing the happy faces of families enjoying their leisure time. Since Covid, I derive immense pleasure just seeing people out and about.
I am off to New York this coming week so am most excited about that, never having been there. A bucket list thing which I have longed for for ages. I was booked for a Xmas visit once but 9/11 happened and somehow New York was no longer the city of choice. Willl hopefully write about my adventures on my next blogg. No doubt I will be bursting with stories.
Remember to try one new thing while I am gone and let me know what that was. I guarantee you will feel very pleased with yourself!
Until next time
